Scleritis vs. Episcleritis

Scleritis
This is inflammation of the sclera (the white outer wall of the eye), severe pain and sometimes pain on eye movement.
It can be associated with connective tissue disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
On examination, there may be reduced visual acuity and abnormal pupil reactions, depending on the site of the inflammation.
Scleritis can lead to perforation of the globe.
